We got our first letter and email from Elder Beatty the other day. He is so funny and is learning lots.
Here is a little bit from his letter:
I think my favorite part so far would have to be the actual language classroom. The teacher really only speaks Spanish the whole time and as soon as he starts teaching he just puts the pedal to the metal and doesn't slow down. It's great because I feel like I am learning so much at such a faster pace.
If there is one thing I have learned so far is that it is so important to focus on those you're teaching.
The teachers keep mention this as trying to figure out what you as a teacher and a missionary need to use to gain the perspective of those you teach.
Here is a little from his email: 5/28/11
Wow its crazy to think it has only been three days since I left. Time has gone by soooooooooooooooo slowly. The missionary life has to be one of the most interesting lives that an individual can live in this world Not only is it rough tough and crazy to understand, it is life changing and very spiritual.
There are 8 elderes (Elders) in our district and 4 hermanas (sisters). Our maestros (teachers) say we as Elderes are blessed to have the Hermanas because they keep us in line. Our clase instruction times are all tres horas. We can have them up to tres times per dias. It's loco because it's hared for us to sit still for that long, pero (but) we find ways to feel the Espiritu (spirit) as we study Espaniol when our maestros help us learn about topics in the gospel and how they are building our testimonies.
I think that most of the rumors are wrong about the food here. The orange juice is not the only thing that you want to stay away from. No I'm eating well and getting a good number of different foods. The problem is when you eat a lot of food and then you just sit all day. I bet you can probably imaging that your digestive system has a rough time with that so it has to let out its frustration somehow. That happens to be in the form of gaseous excretions from the body. Sometimes I feel bad for the hermanas because there are 8 elderes in our district sitting in a tiny room with a tiny window and if they are all having the same digestive problems as me it probably stinks bad.
I already mentioned in my letter that I love the teaching style that the teachers use. they only speak Spanish mostly while we are in class. It is funny because they often ask us if what we are learning is clear (esta claro) and most of us just nod our heads and say Si Esta Bien when really we have no idea what he just said. I guess it shows on our faces because he goes over those things again. Most of the other Elderes say our district is lucky because we have dos native speakers as our maestros. I guess that is true because it makes learning it that much easier because they grew up with it and have most likely helped others learn it before. In the first two days we have learned to pray purely in Spanish as well as extend the invitation to be baptized, and already I have to prepare a testimony to give on Sunday. They really don't mess around here in the MTC.
The evangelio (gospel) is true. Everyday as I begin my day with prayer and continue to study I feel that I am learning more and more to recognize the influence of the spirit for what I should study and focus on. The spirit that I feel here in the MTC is real. The Elderes y Hermanans truly are called of god to serve the people of the world and teach them the basic gospel principles that will bring them closer to Christ through repentance and baptism.
Keep strong in your faith and I know that through hard work anything can be accomplished as you keep close to God. I hope you all are well and can't wait to here from you.
